Miami Herald: Aquarium plan excites SIB commissioners

Condo developer J. Milton & Associates is backing plans for a city-owned aquarium and park across from its new luxury residential complex in Sunny Isles Beach….

Company president Joseph Milton acknowledged the park will help his new St. Tropez condo complex, where some units sell for $1 million….St. Tropez opened last year on waterfront land just south of the proposed park, and about 40 percent of the 286 luxury units remain unsold, Milton said. 

Resident Katy Steiger questioned why the city was so quick to embrace a project without knowing what it will cost to operate. “I feel like there’s a ribbon-cutting ceremony,” she said. “Where is the master plan?”

Sunny Isles is not soliciting other proposals for the site….
